Natural gas supplies to Armenia in Q1 drop by 14% to 575 million cubic meters

The volume of natural gas deliveries to Armenia in the first 3 months of 2010 dropped by 14% year-on-year to 575 million cubic meters, Armenia’s national gas operator, ArmRosGazprom (ARG) said.

YEREVAN, April 26, /ARKA/. The volume of natural gas deliveries to Armenia in the first 3 months of 2010 dropped by 14% year-on-year to 575 million cubic meters, Armenia’s national gas operator, ArmRosGazprom (ARG) said.

According to a statement, posted on the company’s official website, natural gas sales in the country in the reporting period of time fell by 14.2% to 536.5 million cubic meters. Household consumption contracted by 20.1% to 214.1 million cubic meters. The power gird consumed some 99 million cubic meters that was almost 21% less than in the first quarter of 2009. Industrial sector’s consumption was slightly up, by 1.8% making 75.2 million cubic meters.

Stations selling liquefied gas to motor vehicles reported a 6.6% decline to 65.3 million cubic meters. Other consumers said their consumption dropped by 6.4% to 83 million cubic meters.

ARG has a monopoly over the delivery and distribution of natural gas in Armenia which is mainly imported from Russia via Georgia and partially from Iran. The Armenian government owns 20% in ARG, and the remaining 80% is owned by Russia's Gazprom. -0-
