Russia can participate in the funding of railway construction north-south in Armenia

Russian side can participate in the funding of railway construction North-South in Armenia costing 1 billion EURO, said Tigran Sargsyan, Armenian Prime Minister.
YEREVAN, May 22.. /ARKA/. Russian side can participate in the funding of railway construction North-South in Armenia costing 1 billion EURO, said Tigran Sargsyan, Armenian Prime Minister.

Construction of railway North-South connects Armenia with Iran which will allow to use alternative ways of transportation of energy resources and other goods. Currently railway communications of Armenia with foreign countries is provided only through the territory of Georgia.

“During the meeting with Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia we discussed a number of large projects in Armenia and decided to instruct relevant ministries to discuss this issue in a short period of time. One of these projects is construction of railway North-South and new unit for Nuclear Power Plant. The railway is about 400 km long costing 1 billion EURO”, said Sargsyan.

Putin and Sargsyan agreed on instructing the concessionaire of Armenian Railway – South-Caucasian Railway which is the affiliate of Russian Railway to verify the format of Armenian-Russian cooperation in this project.
They also discussed construction works in the section Fioletovo which was approved by the concessionaire and will increase efficiency of railway operation in Armenia.

Sargsyan said that it is in a process already in Armenia and Sergey Kirienko, General Director of State Corporation “Rosatom” has visited Armenia several times.

During the meeting development projects of Armenian enterprises “Armelecromash” and “Nairit” were also introduced.
These projects were proposed by the mentioned enterprises and have regional importance as their production is interesting for NIS countries.

Such programs are being discussed by Anti-crisis Fund and Eurasia Bank.
“These programs do not assume state guarantees and participation and require professional conclusions from working groups”, said Sargsyan. --0--
