30.08.2010, 20:06
The Armenian government on Thursday approved the draft amendments to the Customs Code of the country, proposed to abolish the ability to import cars into the Republic at a preferential regime of temporary import for the Armenian citizens.

YEREVAN, August 30./ ARKA /. The Armenian government on Thursday approved the draft amendments to the Customs Code of the country, proposed to abolish the ability to import cars into the Republic at a preferential regime of temporary import for the Armenian citizens.

As deputy chairman of the State Revenue Armen Alaverdyan said, citizens of the republic are importing cars, including rather expensive ones for constant use.

Therefore, residents’ use of temporary import is "absurd."

Alaverdyan said that with the proposed order, imported cars will undergo the procedure of registration in the 10-day period.

“For foreigners who will stay in Armenia, temporarily, the temporary import of vehicles will continue," said Alaverdyan.

He said that during the seven months of 2010 in Armenia, 44 thousand vehicles were imported under the regime of temporary import of cars against the 32 thousand over the same period in 2009.

According to the deputy head of the Committee, using the preferential regime of temporary import, the citizens of Armenia are not paying customs duties, which constitute about 32% of the value of the car.
Other amendments to the Customs Code, he said, regulate the payment of fees for postal delivery.

Currently, according to Alaverdyan, packages, the cost of which is not more than 50 thousand drams are exempt from payment of fees and the proposed amendments are to increase this amount to 150 thousand drams. ($ 1 - 366.76 AMD).--0-–
