South Caucasus Railway Extends Train Travels to Georgia’s Batumi

14.09.2010, 12:11
The South Caucasus Railway company, operating Armenia’s railroads, said today it will extend train travels to Georgia’s Batumi, a popular destination for Armenian holidaymakers on the Black Sea, until September 30.
YEREVAN, September 14, /ARKA/. The South Caucasus Railway company, operating Armenia’s railroads, said today it will extend train travels to Georgia’s Batumi, a popular destination for Armenian holidaymakers on the Black Sea, until September 30.

The company’s press service said the decision to extend the travels was prompted by stable and high demand for train tickets to Batumi.

Until this year the company halted operating trans to Batumi on September 15, ‘but the increased volume of passengers wishing to travel to Batumi by train has made the company extend the term of operation,’ it said in a statement. Daily trains have been running between Yerevan and Batumi since July 1. The company also said it is negotiating with Georgian peers the possibility of operating 2-3 trips to Batumi until winter.

The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0--
