Armenian wineries and canneries to buy 130,000 tons of grape
YEREVAN, September 17, /ARKA/. Armenian wineries and canneries are expected to procure this year up to 130,000 metric tons of grapes, more than in 2009, when they bought 128,000 metric tons, agricultural minister Gerasim Alaverdian said today while visiting the vineyards of Tierras de Armenia company in Armavir province.

Speaking to accompanying journalists he said both the president of the country and prime minister are following closely the procurement process. He said also local companies have already bought more than 2,000 metric tons of grape.

Armenian wine-growers are expected to gather this year some 215,000 metric tons of grape, by 10,000-15,000 tons more than in 2009. The bulk will be bought from farmers in Armavir and Ararat provinces at the average price of 120 Drams per one kg. The largest procurer, the French-owned Yerevan Brandy Company, will pay 130 Drams for grape cultivated in Armavir and Ararat and 120 Drams for grape grown in northeastern province of Tavush.
