YEREVAN, October 11, /ARKA/. Armenian-Slovenian relations are not very active, but there is a substantial potential that can be used to boost bilateral trade and other contacts, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said today when addressing the Armenian-Slovenian business forum in Yerevan held as part of a visit to Armenia by Slovenia’s president Danilo Tuerk.
‘This business forum may build a strong basis for enhancing Armenian-Slovenian trade and economic ties. It is the logical continuation of a political dialogue between the two countries and we expect concrete results from it,’ Edward Nalbandian said.
Executives of about 50 local and Slovenian companies are taking part in the forum. The Armenian minister stressed the role of two agreements signed today in Yerevan –one is to enhance economic ties and the other to avoid double taxation.
‘We are planning today to discuss the ways that will allow us to foster our relations. We have good potential to develop ties in tourism, IT and pharmaceutical sectors,’ he said. He also referred to Slovenia’s rich experience of economic reforms that may be useful to Armenia.
Armenia’s trade with Slovenia in 2009 was $9.5 million. Armenia exports to Slovenia alcoholic drinks, vinegar and imports medicines, performs and equipment. -0-
