Armenian, Russian lawmakers to outline innovation cooperation prospects
YEREVAN, November 11. /ARKA/. Cooperation in science, high technology and innovation areas is atop the agenda at Armenian-Russian Inter-parliamentary Cooperation Commission’s 19th meeting, Nikolay Rizhkov, co-chair of commission, said on Thursday when opening the session.
“Economic cooperation, along with political and humanitarian, dominates Armenian-Russian relationship,” he said. “Suffice it to say that Russia is the largest investor in Armenia’s economy and more than 1,300 companies with Russian capital function in Armenia.”
Russia invested $116.9 million in Armenia in Jan-June 2010 (16.7% year-on-year growth).
Of this amount, $85 million came as direct investments (5.1% year-on-year growth).
Russia is the leading investor in Armenia’s economy.
Rizhkov said that 2010 is declared as a year of innovations in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
High technology is taking a high profile in the epoch of globalization and creates room for access to world markets.
An innovation cooperation program and a series of events have been worked out in the CIS.
The co-chair said that implementation of Armenian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on scientific and technical cooperation would be analyzed at the session.
He said that cooperation in atomic energy, science and education integration and medical technology development areas will be among the issues under the discussion.

In his address, Abrahamyan stressed the importance of such meetings saying they contribute to creation of legislative basis and development of cooperation between the two countries. M.V.-0---
