Electrical networks of Armenia puts into action reconstructed Abovian power substation
YEREVAN, November 24, /ARKA/. The Russian-owned Electrical Networks of Armenia (ENA), the company that owns and manages Armenia’s power grid, said Tuesday it put into action the Abovian power substation after a reconstruction that is part of a major $50 million worth program designed for reconstruction of 17 substations across Armenia.
The ceremony was attended by prime minister Tigran Sarkisian and board chairman of Russian Inter RAO UES company Boris Kovalchuk. According to Tigran Sarkisian, the government’s share in this program was a $35 million input that was received from the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation.
‘This is one of the largest projects that we have commissioned today and we believe that the investment into it will justify itself, because we shall have a higher reliability in energy supplies,’ he said.
Boris Kovalchuk said the program lasted for 2 years. It was implemented by a Chinese company that won an international tender for the contract. He said the 17 selected substations were the worst of all operating substations. He said the Chinese company used most advanced technology to renovate the substations, which will allow to cut expenses and raise the system’s reliability.
