Construction procedure in Armenia to be streamlined

03.03.2011, 23:46
Armenian government decided Thursday to streamline construction procedure in the country and to amend related laws.
YEREVAN, March 3. /ARKA/. Armenian government decided Thursday to streamline construction procedure in the country and to amend related laws.

Urban Planning Minister Vardan Vardanyan, speaking Thursday at a regular cabinet session, said that the aim of this project is to improve business environment in construction sector, to simplify construction procedures and to upgrade Armenia’s rank in World Bank’s Doing Business rating.

He said that international principles of classification of construction objects regarding their risk degrees have been applied to the project.

Vardanyan said that there are five categories in this classification.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, who spoke at this session as well, stressed the importance of the permission provision procedure.

He said that Armenian citizens have to spend at least 137 days for obtaining permission for construction.

“The current rules imply 20 steps on these procedures and the expenses that exceed AMD 1 million, while new rules imply only 27 days instead of 137 and seven steps instead of 20,” he said adding that the new rules also lessen corruption risks.

Vardanyan told journalists after the session that the issue related to expenses would be discussed by Yerevan municipality. ($1 = AMD 367.2). -0-
