System of digital tachographs to be installed in Armenia

Digital tachographs will be installed the first time in Armenia. It electronically records driver and vehicle activities, such as driving time, other work, rests and breaks to the driver smart card.
YEREVAN, March 11. /ARKA/. Digital tachographs will be installed the first time in Armenia. It electronically records driver and vehicle activities, such as driving time, other work, rests and breaks to the driver smart card.

It holds data relating to faults, over speeding, calibration details and any attempts to tamper with the system, said Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan in the government meeting.

On Thursday the Government of Armenia approved the form and order of using the cards for control devices (digital tachographs).

“In the nearest future our cargo transporters should follow the rules in driving to European countries”, said Sargsyan.

Armenian Transport Minister Manuk Vardanyan explained that this decision comes from the agreement “On the work of transport staff making international car transportation” to which Armenia joined in 2006.

On December 6, 2010 the Government of Armenia adopted decision on allocation of 133.6 million drams for organization of competition on the establishment and introduction of the system of digital tachographs with the purpose of security increase in international cargo transportation in accordance with international standards.
