YEREVAN, March 17. / ARKA /. Armenia can not join the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, unless neighbouring Georgia joins it, Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said today at the Committee on Foreign Relations of the European Parliament in Belgium, in response to a Committee member question.
"There is no such experience in international practice. No country without geographical boundaries with a customs union member could become a member. This question is technically and theoretically impossible to solve " he was quoted as saying by the press service of the Government.
Tigran Sarkisian said that the question of the Customs Union is being discussed by Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus also with other CIS countries, including Armenia.
"Our position is that Armenia is a member of WTO. We have laid down criteria in our legislation, which emanate from WTO agreement. Russia also wants to join WTO having made serious efforts in this direction in recent years," he said.
"Our political goal today is to join the Agreement on Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade. We are making efforts in this direction in the context of reforms in Armenia ", Sarkisian said. -0-
