Fifth energy block of Hrazdan thermal-power station will be operated at the end of spring 2011

Fifth energy block of Hrazdan thermal-power station (Hrazdan -5) will be operated at the end of spring-beginning of summer, second Armenian TV channel informs.
YEREVAN, March 31. /ARKA/. Fifth energy block of Hrazdan thermal-power station (Hrazdan -5) will be operated at the end of spring-beginning of summer, second Armenian TV channel informs.

Construction works in Hrazdan -5 are implemented by “ArmRosgasprom” – monopolist in the sphere of Russian natural gas delivery and distribution to Armenia (shareholders – Gasprom open jsc and Government of Armenia). Investment program of rehabilitation of power block is assessed in $460 million.

Today the main phase of construction works is finished and currently preparation of starting-up and adjustment and regime testing of power block is in process.

Board Chairman, General Director of “ArmRosgasprom” Vardan Harutyunyan said that the company applied to relevant structures for getting technological patent.

The importance of getting the patent is conditioned by the fact that technical solutions interested particularly Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

In Hrazdan -5 the technology of correlation of steam and gas turbines is introduced which makes the structure unique not only in the region but in the world. Due to this technology the capacity of power block will make 480 megawatt.
Today Turkey and Iran are interested in the electricity produced in Hrazdan -5.

Hrazdan thermal-power station (four operating power blocks) was transferred under the ownership of Russian Federation on the account of redemption of the part of state debt of Armenia in the amount of $31 million. In 2006 the Government of Armenia and Gasprom open jsc signed an agreement by which “ArmRosgasprom” obtained the assets of unfinished 5th power block of Hrazdan thermal-power station with liabilities of its construction and modernization.-0-
