Armenia’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) said today it is following the pace of implementation of its earlier ruling with regard to Alex Grig company that was penalized in 2010 for producing vodkas with fake trademarks
YEREVAN, April 6. / ARKA /. Armenia’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC)  said  today it  is following the pace of implementation of its earlier ruling with regard to Alex Grig  company that was penalized in 2010 for producing vodkas with fake trademarks.

In a statement posted on its official website the SCPEC refers to newspaper stories which again accuse Alex Grig of practicing unfair competition. Armenian newspapers cited from Ukrainian mass media which say some vodkas produced by Alex Grig resemble very much vodkas produced in Ukraine and that they confuse buyers.

The SCPEC says last year it started seven administrative proceedings against Alex Grig having penalized it in the amount of 3.5 million Drams for unfair competition. Last year the SCPEC ruled that Alex Grig stop production of several types of vodka, but the company appealed against the ruling and took the case to court  and the litigation still continues.

According to the law,  the maximum fine for unfair competition is 500,000 Drams, but a set of proposals now under consideration call for toughening up the penalty.

Alex Grig company is owned by parliament member Samvel Alexanian from the ruling Republican Party. In 2009 November it was penalized in the amount of $3,00 for unfair competition after a local representation of a Russian company complained that Alex Grig produced vodkas resembling several famous Russian trademarks. -0-
