YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. Armenian National Security Council approved the concept of food security, said the Security Council Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan.
“The concept of food security has several important goals: first, improvement of food security level and food self-sufficiency”, he said in the press-conference on Saturday.
Today, the level of food self-sufficiency is about 58% in Armenia. This indicator is not satisfactory as self-sufficient countries in food terms are the countries where the level of food self-sufficiency exceeds 80%.
According to the concept, food self-sufficiency level is envisaged 77% in 2015 and 84% - in 2020 in accordance with international standards.
Adoption of the food security concept establishes serious basis for the promotion of local production, especially in rural production, mechanisms for affordable and long-term loans of farmers and enterprises involved in agri-food system, introduction of crediting of products, long-term loans for food and agricultural machinery. -0-
