YEREVAN, April 28, /ARKA/. Economy minister Tigran Davtian told a Cabinet session today that the government intends to continue the policy of assisting companies. The minister meant the practice of awarding VAT payment deferments to companies which import 300 million Drams or more worth equipment or technology.

He said the ministry of economy was presently examining investment projects developed by mining, IT and food processing sectors. He said the government would like to find out what these companies expect from the government and what the latter should do to help a concrete company.

The minister also presented changes to the Law on Organization and Conduct of Inspections saying companies will be examined based on available risks.

‘The proposed amendments are fundamental and are related to organization of inspections of companies. The government has got down to implementation of reforms in this area which call for institutional changes,’ he said.

He said the current system of inspections has a set of faults which create problems for economic entities.

In his words, the proposed changes rate risks by three grades – high, average and low. He said the main focus will be on organization of inspections of companies with high risks levels.

He added that the proposed changes stem from Armenia’s international commitments and are part of the plan to improve investment and business environment of the country. -0-
