YEREVAN, May 2. /ARKA/. Armenia’s export will grow from quarter to quarter, Arsen Ghazaryan, chairman of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia, said Monday after the ceremony of awarding the prime minister’s medals to companies for their investments and contribution to economic development.

He said all these companies have invested a great deal in the economy, especially in export-oriented areas.
“We recorded relative growth in export in first three months of this year, compared with the same period a year earlier,” Ghazaryan said. “This growth is expected to accelerate in coming quarters.”

He said that more than 13 re-equipped or new-established enterprises function in Armenia now, and other 30-40 will be established this year. Their investments will have a favorable impact on export.

Ghazaryan said that new jobs will be created thanks to that and the gap between import and export volumes will narrow.
According to official statistical reports, Armenia’s foreign trade turnover grew 10.1% in Jan-March 2011, compared with the same period a year before, to AMD 409.7 billion or $1.1 billion.

Exports totaled $248.5 million after growing 25.2% in Jan-March 2011, and imports grew 6.4% to $869.9 million.
As a result, adverse balance of the country’s foreign trade turnover was $621.4 million ($605.9 million less the cargoes received as humanitarian aid). -0-
