Armenia creates equal conditions for importers and domestic vodka-producing companies
YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. On Thursday, Armenian government approved amendments to the on the domestic market protection law and two other related laws.
The aim of the amendment is to ensure equal approaches to importers and domestic manufacturers and put an end to some countries’ attempts to start a commercial dispute against Armenia within the World Trade Organization.
“The package of amendments applies to the temporary tariff quotas for imported vodka,” Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan said at a regular meeting of the Cabinet.
“These quotas created unequal conditions for domestic manufacturers and importers.”
The minister said that the package of amendments remove difference between them.
In 2010, Ukraine blamed Armenia for creation of unfavorable regime for import of Ukrainian tobacco and alcoholic products in a clear breach of the WTO rules.
Ukraine was unhappy about difference between excise rates set for domestic and imported tobacco products – excise on imported cigarettes was AMD 6,500 for 1,000 cigarettes produced in Armenia, while that on Armenia-made cigarettes was AMD 4,750.
The dispute between Ukraine and Armenia was settled by the end of that year. ($1= AMD 373.16). -0---
