On Thursday, the Armenian government approved the draft law on garbage disposal and related laws.

YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. On Thursday, the Armenian government approved the draft law on garbage disposal and related laws.

Grigor Muradyan, first deputy justice minister, speaking at a regular Cabinet meeting, said that the new law would specify the government’s strategy in this area, give an impetus to investment and lay legal groundwork for lessening adverse impacts of wastes on health and environment.

The Cabinet members, at Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan’s request, found it necessary to send the bill to the National Assembly for quick passage.

The bill also proposes options of payment for garbage disposal.

Monthly fee for household refuse removal per one member of a family is set at up to 500 drams. Monthly fee can also be calculated on housing space – up to 25 drams per one square meter. For other garbage the upper benchmark is set at 2,000 drams per one ton or 1 square meter.

Removal of great volumes of garbage will cost 10,000 drams per one container.

Now monthly fee for garbage disposal in Yerevan is 200 drams per one person. -0-
