YEREVAN, May 31. /ARKA/. Hayastan All Armenian Fund has spent $225 million for rehabilitation of infrastructures in Armenia and Karabakh since it started operating 19 year ago, Ara Vardanyan, executive director of the fund, said Tuesday at the 20th session of the fund trustees’ board.
He said that $15 million was spent in 2010 alone for solving problems in water supply and development in rural areas.
“All the programs are already implemented or under implementation now,” he said.
Vardanyan said that the programs are focused on water supply in large cities. After things are put right here, the focus will be shifted to rural areas.
“When we launched our program, 80% of Karabakh’s population faced water supply problems,” he said. “If we have another year for solving water supply problems in Karabakh, at least 30 or 40 percent of the republic’s population will have their water problem solved.”
Vardanyan said that schools, hospitals, culture houses and gas-supplying facilities were constructed in 2010 under Hayastan All Armenian Fund’s programs.
New members were elected to the board at the session presided by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
As a result, the number of the board members reached 36.
Hayastan All Armenian Fund was established in 1992 for implementation of national projects and development of infrastructures in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
The trustees’ board headed by the Armenian president includes respected representatives of Armenian communities worldwide.
The fund holds charity telethons every year. The 13th telethon held in Los Angeles on November 25 and 26, 2010 under “Water is Life” motto has raised $21 million. -0-
