Expert: anti-hail stations in Armenia are not used effectively

Anti-hail stations are not used effectively in Armenia, considers the Head of Agrarian Association of Armenia Hrach Berberyan.
YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. Anti-hail stations are not used effectively in Armenia, considers the Head of Agrarian Association of Armenia Hrach Berberyan.
“According to the program, the use of anti-hail stations based on acetylene was envisaged in Armenia. With this purpose, 200 packages of acetylene was imported. But, unfortunately, instead of acetylene butane is used, the efficiency of which can be lower”, said Berberyan in the press-conference.
Yesterday’s hail in some regions of the country caused significant damage to the harvest of apricot in Armavir region and the harvest of apple in Aragatsotn region. The size of the damage will be announced soon.
According to the data of the specialists, only in 2009 the damage of the hail was 1.9 billion drams and in 2010 - 4.2 billion drams.
By the assessments of local specialists, annual damage of hail to agriculture of the country is about $30 million.
By 2013, 250 anti-hail stations should be installed in Armenia. -0-
