YEREVAN. June 15. /ARKA/. In 2011 the first high-class train “Armenia” leaves from Yerevan to Batumi on Wednesday at 15.00 by local time (14.00 Moscow time). The number of passengers of the first route is 55.

Director of “South-Caucasian Railways” (SCR) on Passenger Transportation Gagik Movsesyan said that the ticket prices of the route Yerevan-Batumi will be cheaper than in July and August.

“Currently the tickets of the route Yerevan-Batumi are about 8, 13 , 15 and 27 thousand drams for brand trains and 10% cheaper – for social trains”, he said.

SCR hadn’t changed the price coefficients this year but due to the increase of Swiss frank rate
against AMD, the ticket prices increased by about 2 thousand drams.

High-class train “Armenia” of the route Yerevan-Batumi works every day. The train leaves Yerevan at 15.00 local time. On Tuesdays and Fridays additional social passenger train Yerevan-Batumi-Yerevan will operate.

From Batumi to Yerevan the train leaves every day at 13.25 local time (12.25 Moscow time) arriving at Yerevan station at 7.20 a.m. (6.20 Moscow time).

This summer the route of the high-class passenger train is significantly reduced. Now the train leaves from Yerevan to Batumi in 16 hours 37 minutes (vs. 18 hours in 2010) and from Batumi to Yerevan - 16 hours 55 minutes (last year – 18 hours 13 minutes).
Reduction of the train movement was due to renovation works of railway and rolling stock by SCR.

This year the tickets for the train can be obtained in the booking offices of the stations of Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Armavir by automated system of the sale of tickets for international train “Orion” which will allow to avoid double sale of tickets and queues.

As of June 15, 300 passengers bought tickets for high-class train.

CJSC “South-Caucasian Railway” is a 100% subsidiary of OJSC “Russian Railways” implementing concession management of CJSC “Armenian Railways” according to the Concession Agreement signed on February 13, 2008. Term of the concession is 30 years with the right of extension for another 10 years.
