President of Armenia held a working meeting on the issues of the lake Sevan

On Wednesday, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan visited Gegharkunik region of Armenia and got introduced to the improvement activities of two public beaches on the shore of the Lake Sevan.

SEVAN, June 29. /ARKA/. On Wednesday, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan visited Gegharkunik region of Armenia and got introduced to the improvement activities of two public beaches on the shore of the Lake Sevan, informs correspondent of news agency ARKA.

Sargsyan held a working discussion with organizations responsible for the ecology of Sevan.

During the discussion, Armenian Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan and the Chairman of the Committee on the Issues of Sevan Vladimir Movsisyan presented reports about the activities of dismantling of buildings, cleaning of the territories from trees and transfer of infrastructure due to the increase of water level in the lake.

Unprecedented increase of Sevan level resulted in the flood of coastal roads, buildings and trees. Many buildings, trees and snags were left under water. Cleaning activities of the lake is implemented with the help of special equipment.

Vice-Premier, Territorial Administration Minister of Armenia Armen Gevorgyan presented the activities implemented in the Lake Sevan which is coordinated by the Ministry.

After the discussion, Sargsyan left for presidential residence in Sevan where he held a working meeting with the Governor of Gegharkunik region Never Poghosyan. They discussed socio-economic issues of the region.

Lake Sevan is one of the largest highly mountainous lakes of Europe and Asia located in the center of Armenian upland on the height of 1914 meters. Sevan attracts the tourists with its beauty. It is famous for its fish, especially trout which Armenians call “ishkhan” (which means “prince”).

Sevan stretches more than 70 kilometers from north-west to south-east. The square of its water mirror is about 1500 square meters. Sevan is the main resource of drinking water in the region. By 2030, the lake level will be increased to 1903.5 m.—0--
