Security Council: Yerevan and Tehran plan to implement large economic projects

30.06.2011, 20:42
Yerevan and Tehran plan to implement large economic projects, said the Secretary of National Security Council of Armenia Artur Baghdasaryan.
YEREVAN, June 30. /ARKA/. Yerevan and Tehran plan to implement large economic projects, said the Secretary of National Security Council of Armenia Artur Baghdasaryan.

“Now we are negotiating on the construction of Meghri hydro-power station (on Armenian-Iranian border), oil pipeline Iran-Armenia which will stretch from Persian Bay”, said Baghdasaryan in the interview to Public TV of Armenia.

During his recent visit to Tehran, Baghdasaryan discussed these issues with the President of Iran Mahmūd Ahmadinežâd and the Secretary of Supreme Council of National Security Saeed Jalili.

“Implementation of these large infrastructure projects is very important for our country. Their cost is not dozens of millions but billion of dollars. We have already obtained preliminary agreements but we should understand that such strategic projects require long negotiation processes. We have done a very serious work in this direction already”, he said.

Besides the plans of construction of hydro-power station and oil pipeline, joint programs of railway construction and expressway with modern tunnels will also be implemented. “These projects are in the phase of discussion and agreements. I think that during the visit of the President of Iran to Armenia which will take place in the nearest future, certain documents will be signed”, said Baghdasaryan. --0--
