Economic activity index in May 2011 grows by 9.9%

In 2011 May the economic activity index in Armenia grew by 9.9% if compared to the same period last year, the National Statistical Service told ARKA.
YEREVAN, June 30. / ARKA /. In 2011 May the economic activity index in Armenia grew by 9.9% if compared to the same period last year, the National Statistical Service told ARKA. In said the economic activity index in May grew by 13.7% from April, while in January-April the growth amounted to 5.1% from a year before.

According to statistics, the construction sector recorded a 5.1% decline. But the volume of construction work in May was more than 38.9 billion drams, having increased by 70.3% in comparison with April.

The industrial output grew by 25.1% in May of this year from the same period in 2010 to 82.8 billion drams, having increased in May by 11.4% from April. The agriculture was said to have increased by 0.1% compared to May 2010, amounting to about 52.3 billion drams. The growth in May from April 2011 was 49.2%. The foreign trade grew by 23% in May 2011 year-on-year to 177.2 billion drams ($474.7 million). Compared with April 2011 the growth was 5.6%.

Also in May this year the volume of services saw a 5.6% rise from a year before to about 68.4 billion drams. Compared to the previous month, the increase was 0.2%. The government has projected a 4.6% GDP expansion for the year. ($ 1-369,96 AMD).-0-
