Ararat Province’s Apricot Harvest This Year To Outdo That Of Previous Year By 20 Tons

Ararat province’s apricot harvest this year will be 18 to 20 tons greater than that of the previous year, Edik Barseghyan, governor of Armenia’s Ararat province, told journalists on Wednesday after his meeting with President Serzh Sargsyan.
YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. Ararat province’s apricot harvest this year will be 18 to 20 tons greater than that of the previous year, Edik Barseghyan, governor of Armenia’s Ararat province, told journalists on Wednesday after his meeting with President Serzh Sargsyan.
“Some 4,600 tons of apricots were gathered in 2010,” he said.
He said that 13,000 tons have already been gathered as of today in Ararat. Of them, 4,600 tons have been exported to Georgia and Russia.
“Other 10,000 tons are expected to be gathered soon,” Barseghyan said. “They will be sold in Armenia via markets as well as sent outside.”
The governor also said that the Ararat cannery has already started purchasing apricots at 100 drams per one kilogram.
“Initially per-kilogram price for apricots was AMD 2,000, while now they are being bough directly from gardens and from farmers at markets at 500 to 600 drams,” he said.
Barseghyan added that peach harvest is expected to be rich as well.
He said weather was favorable for agriculture this year – the province, excluding Khosrov sanctuary’s territory under wheat, hadn’t hail this year.
The governor said 45 effective hail protection stations have been installed in province. ($1 = AMD 369.42). –0--
