Locations of future geothermal power plants in Armenia will be determined by the end of 2011

Tamara Babayan, head of the Armenian Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund, said today the locations for future geothermal power plants in Armenia will be determined by the end of 2011.
YEREVAN, July 15. / ARKA /. Tamara Babayan, head of the Armenian Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund, said today the locations for future geothermal power plants in Armenia will be determined by the end of 2011.

Speaking at a news conference she said after two-stage studies two major geothermal areas - Kyarkyar in Syunik region and Gridzor in Gegharkunik region- have been chosen to build plants.According to her, the research conducted jointly with an Italian company. Ms. Babayan said also that a total $1.5 million have been earmarked for research work and most of the money has not yet been used.

The World Bank released a $1.5 million grant to finance a program for development of geothermal energy in the country. Another $300 thousand or 17% of total expenditure has been allocated by the Armenian government. -0-
