YEREVAN, August 31. /ARKA/. In recent months, milk price in Armenia leapt 50% from 100 drams per one liter to 150 to 180 drams, depending on quality, Gagik Khachatryan, director of the bureau for implementation of the Armenian agriculture ministry’s programs, said Wednesday at a news conference.
He refrained from pointing out this price hike reason and limited himself to mentioning just that very often price rise is due to costs of forage.
“There are also many faults in this area, particularly in production and sale of dairy products,” he said. “Milk purity, quality and marking leave much to be desired. These faults need to be removed.”
Khachatryan said that necessary efforts are being made now.
The government has already made an appropriate decision demanding necessary marking for dairy products indicating the percentage of milk and other components.
Khachatryan also said that the WB-supported program on competition and management of agricultural resources is focused on development of pastures and enhancement of milk and meat yield in 55 rural communities.
Increase in prices for Ashtarak-Kat dairy company’s products and publications in newspapers prompted the State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition’s scrutiny.
The commission demanded the company to submit justification of this increase no later than on September 1.
There are several companies dominating Armenia’s dairy market. It has become clear after the monitoring that particularly prices for Ashtarak-Kat products went up. -0-
