YEREVAN, September 9. / ARKA /. All capital structures (mainly shops and cafes) on downtown Yerevan Abovian street will be dismantled, Narek Sarkisian, chief architect of Yerevan, said Friday. Speaking at a news conference he convened to mark his first 100 days in this capacity, he said dismantling will begin within the next two months.

"We are also going to move Marco Polo café, located in one of the busiest parts of the street, three meters deep to expand the sidewalk," he said adding that all outdoor cafes on the street should be completely dismantled in the cold season.

Sarkisian said a new square will be built near the monument to Khachatur Abovian (19-th century Armenian author), Brazil Square near Hrazdan stadium will be improved. The municipality will also implement Old Yerevan, Noah’s Land and Art Village projects near Atenk street.

According to Sarkisian, the Circus building will undergo a complete renovation as well as the area near the railway station; also a monument to prominent Armenian 19-th century benefactor Mantashov will be set up on Abovian street and another monument to Garegin Nzhde, a famous military leader, will be erected near the intersection of Nalbandian and Hanrapetutyun streets. The municipality will also set up monuments to famous writer Derenik Demirchian and a Soviet time ruler of Armenia, Karen Demirchian. -0-
