YEREVAN, September 15. / ARKA /. ArmenAl Armenian-Russian foil-rolling plant in Yerevan is set to produce 26,000 tons of foil this year, by 7% more than in 2010, economy minister Tigran Davtian said today after the government adopted a decision to extend the so-called ‘temporary import customs regime’ for the company until September 8, 2012. The privilege is granted to companies that import 300 million drams and more worth equipment or services.
The minister said ArmenAl imports new equipment as part of a cooperation project with German Achenbach Buschutten, that is expected to result in the instalment of modern furnaces to reduce production costs and time. He said this will allow the company to produce competitive products and export them to United States and other countries.
In the first six months of this year ArmenAl produced 13,110 tons of foil, by 8.2% more than in the same period last year. It also exported 12,602 tons, by 4% more than in January-June last year.
The ArmenAl foil rolling mill was founded in May 2000 on the basis of Kanaker aluminium smelter in Yerevan. It is one of the biggest production facilities in Armenia and is the only producer of aluminium foil in the Caucasus and Central Asian regions.
On May 18th, 2000 the mill was integrated into United Company RUSAL. Together with two other foil mills, SAYANAL in the Russian republic of Khakasia and Urals Foil, ARMENAL forms the company’s Packaging Division. -0-
