YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. Today measures are undertaken on the development and expansion of wine-making in Armenia, said Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapatyan in the 7th international forum Fruitfull Armenia.

The sphere of agriculture is priority for Armenia which allowed to implement a number of favorable changes, particularly in the sphere of viticulture and wine-making.

He welcomed the establishment of the Union of Cognac Producers saying that, unfortunately, not all the producers are included in the union. Agreement on the establishment of the Union was signed on December 15, 2010. Twelve companies, including Yerevan Cognac factory, Cognac-Wine-Vodka Factory “Ararat”, the company "Artashat-Vincon", the company "Great valley", Avshar Wine factory, wine-vodka house “Shahnazaryan, Stepanakert Cognac Factory, Ararat Cognac Factory, Wine-Vodka Factory "Tavinco", cognac factory "Aragak", the company "Vedi Alco" and  "MAP" are included in the union.

Currently there are more than 50 wine producers in the Armenian market but their production has no demand in the international market yet.

“Introduction of the process of grape-growing and wine production of new technologies, particularly anti-hail technologies, and establishment of new and modern grape fields is very important”, said Karapetyan. Establishment of cooling cameras in the airport was also very important, for which I express my gratitude to Mr. Eurnekyan (owner of “Armenia-International Airports – concessionaire of “Zvartnots” airport")”, he said.

Permanent Coordinator of UN in Armenia Dafina Gercheva mentioned the positive results of the reforms in agriculture of Armenia.

“We also support the development of agriculture and are supporters of encouragement and funding of specially vulnerable farms”, she said.

According to the data of National Statistic Service of Armenia, in January-May 2011 over 4.8 million liters of famous Armenian cognac was produced which is by 5.9% more than the indicator of the same period of 2010. Wine production increased by 15.7% making 2.6 million liters.

The main topic of the 7th international forum Fruitfull Armenia this year became establishment of special places for harvest storage for the farmers, particularly using specialized cooling cameras, as well as the problem of wine-making and grape-growing in Armenia. -0-
