France intends to increase investments in Armenia: Sarkozy

France is the second-largest foreign investor in Armenia, but is not going to limit to this and will unveil new projects, French president Nicolas Sarkozy said yesterday during a meeting in Paris with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan.

France is the second-largest foreign investor in Armenia, but is not going to limit to this and will unveil new projects, French president Nicolas Sarkozy said yesterday during a meeting in Paris with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan, Sargsyan’s press service told ARKA.
Sarkozy was quoted as saying that he is looking forward to his state visit to Armenia (in early October) and the format of the visit demonstrates the exceptional warmth of relations between the two countries. He stressed that France is Armenia's friend and will always be with her. Sarkozy also welcomed the reforms implemented in Armenia under the leadership of president Serzh Sargsyan.
In turn, president Sargsyan expressed gratitude for warm reception, noting that he was happy to make a visit to France at a time when Armenia is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its independence. Sargsyan said that Yerevan is interested in deepening relations with France.
"We are proud of our friendship with France and attach vital importance to close ties established between our two countries," Sargsyan said.
During a working lunch, the two leaders discussed a string of issues of cooperation in energy, infrastructure, education and culture areas. The two sides touched upon regional issues, as well as the current stage of the Karabakh problem.
Before talks with the French president Serzh Sargsyan met with the chairman of the National Assembly, Bernard Accoyer, who stressed the high level of inter-parliamentary co-operation that exists between Armenia and France. Accoyer described these ties as unique, noting that Armenia has a very active friends in the French parliament, and his country in the Armenian parliament has the same good friends.
Stressing the importance of inter-parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations, the sides noted the active work of the parliamentary friendship groups in the two countries. -0-
