Unemployment rate in Armenia in August drops to 6 percent

Armenia’s unemployment level dropped in 2011 August by 0.9% from August 2010 to 6%, according to the latest numbersб released by the National Statistical Service.

According to official data, some 85,600 people looking for jobs were registered by employment centers across the country фе the end of August 2011, but only 72,100 of them were granted the unemployed status.
According to the official figures, the total number of economically active population in the second quarter of 2011 amounted to 1.205.7 million, of which 1.130.5 million were considered employed.
Of the total number of the unemployed only 17,300 people were eligible to receive unemployment benefit, down from 23,000 in 2010 August. The average monthly unemployment benefit at the end of August stood at 17,159 drams, up from 16,690 drams in 2010 August. ($1 -372.05) -0-
