Reforms and programs in agricultural sector created serious pre-conditions for the development of villages and agriculture, says the message of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to the participants of the First World Agroforum in Yerevan.

pre-conditions for the development of villages and agriculture, says the message of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to the participants of the First World Agroforum in Yerevan.

“Problems of agricultural sector will remain in the center of my attention and the government. Taking into account the role of agriculture in the structure of economy, it will also be a priority in the development of the country”, read Armenian Agriculture Minister the message of the President.

Sargsyan considers broad discussion of the problems in agriculture of Armenia very important for understanding how and in what directions should the country develop.

“Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate agricultural workers and say that your hard work is not only in demand but also appreciated by our people… We are proud of Armenian agriculture and achievements in its adjacent areas”, says the message of the President.

He said that Armenia has not only rehabilitated the former processing companies but established new ones. “Meanwhile, we should not lose vigilance. The picture is not so favorable; in the past years there were serious problems characteristic for transition period which we have no right to ignore, including risk management related to climate conditions, availability of agricultural machinery and implementation of harvest. Consistent work is conducted for this and other areas”, he said.

In 2010 unprecedented growth in agriculture in the amount of 12.5% was registered. In August 2011 gross agricultural products of Armenia was 1.4% or 131.5 billion drams. Growth of gross agricultural products was 62%.

The First World Agroforum opened on Friday to October 16 in Yerevan in the frames of the events of 20th anniversary of independence of Armenia. The first time in the country the Day of Agricultural Worker will be celebrated in Armenia.

There are directly involved 1000 representatives of agricultural sector of Armenia and Diaspora, of which 700 are farms, cooperatives and processing companies from the regions of Armenia. Forty farmers from nine countries – Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Lebanon, Iran, Poland, Latvia, USA and France approved their participation . Delegation from Karabakh also participated in Agroforum.
