The Investigative Department of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee launched yesterday a massive search at all branches of Electrical Networks of Armenia (ENA) power distributor, seizing, particularly, documents, the company’s press service told ARKA.
YEREVAN, October 20. / ARKA /. The Investigative Department of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee launched yesterday a massive search at all branches of Electrical Networks of Armenia (ENA) power distributor, seizing, particularly, documents, the company’s press service told ARKA.

The company cited State Revenue Committee officials as saying that the search and documents seizure were part of a criminal case opened by the State revenue Committee following a tax inspection.

"The State Revenue Committee says that the Electrical Networks of Armenia failed to pay a total of 1.9 billion drams in income, profit and VAT taxes, as well as in compulsory social insurance payments, penalties included", the press-service said.

The Russian-owned company said it has challenged the allegation at the Commission of Appeals of the State Revenue Committee considering the demand to recover the mentioned amount ungrounded and inconsistent with the law.

ENA said searches and seizures of documents led to a partial loss of control of the company, and that the destabilization of the company ahead of preparations for autumn-winter season may have an adverse effect on the operation of the equipment.

It said it expects an objective resolution of the situation in compliance with all established procedures ‘because conducting open and transparent business is one of our most important tasks.’ The company also said it has been supporting the fight against corruption at all levels and reiterated its readiness to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The company called on the State Revenue Committee to demonstrate utmost discretion in conducting investigative actions in order to prevent unnecessary damage to the functioning of power grid and not to hinder reliable supply of electricity to all consumers in the country. ARKA is trying now to get comments from the State Revenue Committee.

The Electric Networks of Armenia has an exclusive license for the transmission and distribution of electricity in Armenia. It is a 100% subsidiary of Russian INTER RAO UES". The company serves about 950,000 customers. ($ 1 - 377.45 AMD). -0-
