YEREVAN, November 8. / ARKA /. The disparity between the demand and supply at the local labor market is the greatest obstacle to effective protection of workers’ rights, a former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Arsen Hambardzumyan, told ARKA. Hambardzumyan is a senior member of the oppositional Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).
"There is a serious disparity between supply and demand at the labor market, so the employers while recruiting new staff put very strict requirements. In these circumstances it is impossible to protect workers’ rights, ‘said Hambardzumyan, who was participating in a conference on social reforms in Armenia.
He said the government must make extra efforts to resolve unemployment problem gradually. He said he and a colleague made a study on employment and propose to develop long-term employment programs.
The conference features seasoned experts who will present advanced research on health, housing support and employment in Armenia. The conference is a joint initiative of Hayk Marukhyan Foundation and German Foundation Friedrich Ebert". -0-
