YEREVAN, November 8. / ARKA /. The State Food Safety Service of the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture, instituted administrative proceedings against three dairy companies - Ani, Tamara and Ashtarak-Kat, according to the chief of the agency Abram Bakhchagulyan.
He said the examination of the quality of products of these companies has not yet been completed and when it is over the results will be publicized.
Bakhchagulyan said the examination did not reveal yet any inconsistency with food safety requirements. He said these companies were selected randomly.
He said under a new legislation all dairy companies are required to indicate on the packaging of their products the percentage of used dry and whole milk. The new law comes into effect on January 1, 2012.
According to some estimates, 80% of dairy products in Armenia are made of imported milk powder.
"Today, almost all dairy producers use the term "normalized milk " which means the presence of dry milk, but not all consumers understand the meaning of this word," he added. -0-
