YEREVAN, November 17. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan described the next year’s draft budget that is being discussed in the parliament currently as ‘cautious and realistic.’

"We have drawn up the draft budget having in mind anticipated risks and threats. The legislative changes we are implementing together with the parliament, will allow us to fully perform the 2012 budget", he said Wednesday during a briefing in the parliament.

According to the prime minister, the draft budget has triggered two radical positions. One says that the government will be unable to collect 101 billion drams in additional revenues and the second says that in fact it can collect as much as 500 billion drams.

The prime minister admitted that the shadow economy still makes a large proportion of the economy.

"We need to implement our policy in such a way as not create problems for businesses in terms of tax administration. This means that we must be extremely careful. Improvement of the tax administration is not a single day job. We need to have 3000 government officials and at least 60,000 business people revise their rules of conduct," said the prime minister.

The Armenian government has prepared a package of legislative changes to introduce a tax on luxury cars, increase by 50% taxes on expensive alcoholic beverages and increase also the income tax. ($1 – 384.09 drams).-0-
