Consumers are unaware of their rights in Armenia, and appropriate laws are not observed here, Lusine Yagubyab, head of Protection of Consumers’ Rights nongovernmental organization, said Monday at a news conference.
YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. Consumers are unaware of their rights in Armenia, and appropriate laws are not observed here, Lusine Yagubyab, head of Protection of Consumers’ Rights nongovernmental organization, said Monday at a news conference.

“Studies conducted at consumer market show that despite efforts, things are not perfect here,” she said.
Yagubyan said that the organization had analyzed consumers’ complaints and saw that very often people bought shoddy domestic and imported goods, products having their limiting storage period expired and are serves improperly.

She pointed out one of Armenia’s consumer rights protection law stating that the consumer has a right to exchange a product after purchasing it for a similar product. If there is no similar product in the shop, the consumer can have his/her money returned.

Yagubyan said that consumers in Armenia were silent before, while now they struggle for justice.
Her deputy, Karen Chilingaryan, on his side, said that the number of complaints from consumers has frown a great deal in recent years to annual 1,000.

He said that people mostly complain about quality of products.

“About 70% of complaints are being addressed,” he said adding that very often consumers solve their problems thanks to juridical consulting. --0--
