Armavia airline to purchase Russian planes

Armavia is currently conducting negotiations with the VTB-Leasing Company for the purchase of the planes, Press Secretary of the “Armavia” airline Zhasmen Vilyan told ARKA.
YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/. The Armenian “Armavia” airline intends to purchase Sukhoi Superjet 100 airplanes produced by the “Sukhoi Civil Airplanes” CJSC.
Armavia is currently conducting negotiations with the VTB-Leasing Company for the purchase of the planes, Press Secretary of the “Armavia” airline Zhasmen Vilyan told ARKA.
She pointed out that the number of the planes to be purchased as well as the transaction terms are yet to be specified.
Referring to the VTB President Andrey Kostin, the Russian “Komersant” newspaper reports that VTB can organize the financing of the delivery of the planes.
“We are negotiating the delivery of five Sukhoi Superjet 100 planes through out leasing company,” Kostin said.
Komersant reports that if the sides sign a contract, it will be the first stage of implementation of the May cooperation agreement between the VTB and the “Sukhoi Civil Airplanes” CJSC, as well as the first project of the VTB-Leasing Company in the sale of airplanes.
The “Sukhoi Civil Airplanes” CJSC did not report the transaction amount. Since the price of one Sukhoi Superjet 100 airplane is $28.9mln, the contact with the “Armavia” airline may cost about $144.5mln.
Earlier, President and Board Chairman of the VTB Bank OJSC Andrey Kostin stated that the VTB Bank intended to implement $500 mln. investment projects in Armenia, particularly in the spheres of energy, transport, air transportation, gas and mineral resources.
The “Armavia” airlines was founded on December 12, 1996. President of the MIKA Armenia Trading Company Mikhail Bagdasarov has been owner of the airline since June 2005. P.T. –0--
