YEREVAN, January 22. /ARKA/. As of the end of 2007, 6,250 organizations are gas consumers in Armenia against 4,838 organizations in 2006. A trend toward increase in gas consumption in the country in recent years has been recorded, the press service of “ArmRosgasprom” closed joint stock company reported.

Gas supplies to these organizations grew by 12.9% and totaled about 1.337bln cubic meters.

Among the biggest gas consumers in the country are the Yerevan Heat Station closed joint stock company, Hrasdan Thermal Power Plant Co. Ltd., Nairit Plant, Ararat Cement and Mikacement closed joint stock companies.

In 2007 against 2006, gas supplies to “Nairit” increased 47.9%, to Araratcement – 14.4% and to Mikacement – 1.4%.

A 0.05% increase has been recorded in gas consumption by Yerevan Heat Station. Negligible reduction was recorded in consumption of Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant – from 368mln cubic meters in 2006 to 354mln cubic meters in 2007.

According to the press service of “ArmRosgasprom” closed joint stock company, gas imports to Armenia increased 19.7% and totaled about 2.054bln cubic meters in 2007 against 1.716bln cubic meters in 2006. The gas sales grew by 17.9% and totaled 1.869bln cubic meters in the period under review as compared with 1.586bln cubic meters in 2006.
The consumption of gas by population grew by 32.5% up to 532mln cubic meters. Industrial gas consumption increased 17.5% and totaled about 406mln cubic meters as compared with 2006.

“ArmRosgasprom” enjoys the monopoly for supply and distribution of the Russian natural gas on the domestic market of Armenia. The company was established in 1997. Its capital is $580mln currently. The shareholders are “Gasprom” open joint stock company (57.59%), Armenia’s Ministry of Energy (34.7%) and “Itera” oil and gas company (7.71%).—0--
