Vivacell to operate area code 77

At its Friday meeting, the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) permitted K-Telecom Company (Vivacell trademark) to operate area code 77.
YEREVAN, February 8. /ARKA/. At its Friday meeting, the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) permitted K-Telecom Company (Vivacell trademark) to operate area code 77.
Thus, K-Telecm will use area code 77 in addition to currently functioning codes 93 and 94, Head of the Commission’s Telecommunication Department Gevorg Gevorgyan said.
Public Relations Executive, K-Telecom, Vahan Harutyunyan said the company will start selling mobile numbers with area code 77 as soon as possible, but the operation of the new system will require some technical preparation.
He said the major reason why the company asked for a new area code was the fact that it had already used about 80% of the capacity of code 93, and 60% of code 94.
On December 28, 2007, the Commission granted “ArmenTel”, the other Armenian mobile operator, the right to operate area code 99, “K-Telecom” had applied for as well.
On January 12, 2008, the Commission decided to add area codes 55 and 77 to the existing mobile codes.
One of the two Armenian mobile operators, “ArmenTel”, belongs to the Russian “VimpelKom” company. Russian MTC Company holds the control stock of Vivacell.--0—
