YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. Yerevan Djur company is to implement zoning of Yerevan to improve water supply in the capital, the General Director of Yerevan Djur closed joint stock company Serge Popoff told journalists.

11 zones to be outlined will cover area with total population of 161,000 people. The zoning will be completed by October 2008 and will allow creating mini-networks in communities that are at similar altitudes which will enable pressure control and loss reduction in the network, Popoff said. This will also give an opportunity to detect the most vulnerable sections of the pipeline and make replacements, he said.

140 booster pumps are to be replaced and water supply in villages is to be repaired in the scope of the zoning program, Popoff said.

Yerevan Djur CJSC holds Yerevan water systems under lease for ten years and is to provide drinking water supply and wastewater services to the capital, as well as to Ararat, Aragatsotn and Kotayk regions of Armenia.

The Yerevan Djur Company, Armenia’ resident, was founded by the Veolia Generale des Eaux (France), which won a WB-announced tender for management of the Yerevan Water and Sewerage Company in 2005. During the lease period, the Veolia Generale des Eaux is to invest $20mln for repair of the water supply network under the WB loan program, 17.6mln Euro gained from collection after water prices are approved and 6.4mln Euro as the company’s own investments.  –0--
