About 40% of all flights in Armenia operated to Moscow

About 40% of all the flights in Armenia are operated to Moscow, Arsen Nazaryan, adviser of CAPS/USAID program, said on Wednesday presenting preliminary results of a recent study to ARKA News Agency.

YEREVAN, May 7. /ARKA/. About 40% of all the flights in Armenia are operated to Moscow, Arsen Nazaryan, adviser of CAPS/USAID program, said on Wednesday presenting preliminary results of a recent study to ARKA News Agency.

As the second important destination, he pointed out Prague – 9% and Paris – 5%.

“The most important revelation prompting speculations is that the remaining 47% of flights are operated to 34 countries. This shows that airlines focus only on certain directions”, Nazaryan said.

Moscow airport of Domodedovo is considered as the most popular destination though four airlines are competing for operating flights to three Moscow airports.

He said that the greatest number of flights is operated to Moscow’s Domodedovo, 3,500 seats.

Parisian Charles de Gaulle Airport follows Domodedovo with 1000 seats.
After them come airports in Minvody and St. Petersburg.
The share of Armavia, national operator, is equal to that of its rivals in certain directions.

“Remarkable is that flights in all the remaining directions are operated even rarer than once a day”, Nazaryan said.

The study was conducted in April and May 2008 by an independent international expert under funding by Competitive Armenian Private Sector – CAPS/USAID. M.V.-0--
