YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. A large-scale recreational zone is planned for construction in the Hrazdan Gorge area of Yerevan, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan announced at a government meeting on Thursday.

According to him, the program's budget is 172 million drams (over $450,000). The government intends to raise these funds through the redistribution of funding and direct them to the Yerevan Municipality.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, in turn, clarified that the project is planned for construction in the Arabkir administrative district, located 5.5 km from the entrance to the Hrazdan Gorge.

"The program includes the improvement of the Hrazdan Gorge, the creation of a new landscape, a park, recreational areas, venues for cultural and sports events, an open-air cinema, and a café that will become a hub for public activity," Avinyan said.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan added that three major environmental programs are planned for Yerevan: the creation of a recreational zone in the Hrazdan Gorge, a large forest park in Dalma Gardens, and a 7-hectare forest park in the Nork-Marash administrative district.

It was previously reported that the authorities intend to grant the Hrazdan Gorge a special status and transform it into a recreational zone. The area faces serious environmental problems associated with the discharge of wastewater and garbage from facilities located there into the river.
