YEREVAN, June 23. /ARKA/. About 40% of investments anticipated to be made in 2017 have already been implemented, Minister of Economic Development and Investment of Armenia Suren Karayan told journalists on Friday.

Earlier Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said there were $3.2 billion worth clear-cut investment projects of which $850 million could be implemented this year.

Karayan claimed that the bulk of expected investment has already been implemented, but declined to name the recipient companies saying it was a commercial secret. He said also that the Armenian Investors Club, created with the support of Russia-based ethnic Armenian businessmen, will soon announce the sectors in which its members will invest.  He said also that to increase investment attractiveness of the country, the government is looking into the possibility of granting citizenship to major investors.

Karayan said talks were underway with a string of French investors, saying also that soon a group of Danish investors who are also interested in the Armenian market, will visit the country.

According to the National Statistical Service, net foreign investment in Armenia’s real sector of the economy in 2016 declined to 81.6 billion drams from 118.4 billion drams in 2015. The inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2016 amounted to about 62.6 billion drams from 69.4 billion drams in 2015. The largest investments for the reporting period came from Luxembourg, Cyprus and the United Kingdom. --0--
