An equivalent of 446.3 billion drams arrived in Armenia as foreign investments in the first quarter of this year, (without investments obtained by the government and the banking sector), the National Statistical Service (NSS) reported.

YEREVAN, September 2. /ARKA/. An equivalent of 446.3 billion drams arrived in Armenia as foreign investments in the first quarter of this year, (without investments obtained by the government and the banking sector), the National Statistical Service (NSS) reported.

Net foreign investments amounted to about 78.8 billion drams in the period.

Foreign direct investments (FDI) stood at about 249.9 billion drams in the first half of the year, while net FDI were 75 billion drams.

According to the National Statistical Service, the largest amount of foreign investments came from Russia – about 213.2 billion drams. Of that amount 196.8 billion drams were direct investments. The next biggest investors in the Armenian economy were Cyprus and Germany with about 67 billion drams and about 48.1 billion drams in investments respectively. Direct investments from these two countries were 2.6 billion drams and over 9.2 billion drams respectively.

According to the NSS, mining sector and field development accounted for 11.7% or 52.3 billion drams of overall foreign investments; some 42.7 billion drams were channeled into ore extraction and about 38.6 million drams into production of alkaline metals. ($ 1 - 411.26 drams). – 0--
