Apricot procurement season begins in Armenia

This year’s apricot procurement season has already begun in Armenia, the press office of the agriculture ministry reported on Wednesday.
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. This year’s apricot procurement season has already begun in Armenia, the press office of the agriculture ministry reported on Wednesday.
Canneries have already embarked on their procurements. In particular, Artashat Cannery (ArtFood) started purchasing apricots on June 22, Ararat Food Combine begins buying apricots on June 23 and EuroTerm CJSC in Vanand, Armavir province, on June 24.
According to the agriculture ministry’s forecasts, 45,000 to 55,000 tons of apricots are expected this year despite frost and hail affected crops this year, mostly in Ararat and Armavir provinces.
In Armavir and Echmiadzin as well as in some communities of Bagramyan crop losses are gauged at 50-80%, and in some communities even more.
Ararat province is estimated to sustain 20 to 40% losses this year, Artashat 40 to 70%, Masis 40 to 50% and some communities around Zvatrnots Airport (including Echmiadzin) 60 to 90%.
Two or three communities of Vayots Dzor are estimated to sustain some losses as well.
Armenia’s gross apricot crop was reported at 103,000 tons in late June 2015 – by 14,000 tons more than the result of 2014. --0----
