YEREVAN, July 7. /ARKA/. Armenia's foreign trade in January-May 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 slashed by 49% to $7,912,325.9 thousand, according to the National Statistical Service.

In May 2025, this figure dropped to $1,559.3 million, down 28.8% compared to May 2024, and by 14.8% compared to April 2025.

Armenia's largest foreign trade partner was Russia (trade turnover for the first 5 months of this year was $2,798,197.4 thousand, a 58.2% decline compared to the first 5 months of last year).

Armenia's foreign trade turnover with the EU countries was $932,523.9 thousand, a 6.3% increase. The top five largest trading partners are Germany ($181,522.2 thousand, a decline of 4.1%), Italy ($162,145.8 thousand, a decline of 1.5%), the Netherlands ($78,674.1 thousand, an increase of 22.4%), France ($77,188.8 thousand, an increase of 40.8%) and Belgium ($63,683.5 thousand, a decline of 7.4%).

Trade with China stood at $956,120.6 thousand, a decline of 21.8%. That with the UAE was $895,307.8 thousand, a decline of 73.2%; trade with Iran was $278,667.8 thousand, an increase of 4%) and trade with the USA was $155,153.0 thousand, a decline of 19.6%. Trade with Iraq was $130,573.4 thousand, an increase of 89.7%.

According to statistics, exports from Armenia in January-May 2025 decreased by 57.4% compared to January-May 2024, amounting to $3,021,173.1 thousand. In May 2025, this figure stood at $586.6 million, decreasing by 39.3% compared to May 2024, and by 19% compared to April 2025.

Exports to Russia was $1,096,800.8 thousand, down 7.4%. Exports to the EU countries increased by 4.4% compared to the first five months of 2024, amounting to $239,269.7 thousand.

The top three countries in terms of export volume are the Netherlands ($51,451.5 thousand, up 18.4%), Germany ($45,567.0 thousand, up 80.8%) and Belgium ($42,371.8 thousand, down 8.5%).

Other countries with the largest imports from Armenia include the UAE ($862,491.9 thousand, a decline of 74%), China ($210,792.2 thousand, a decline of 67.8%), Iraq ($130,396.1 thousand, an increase of 89.6%), Georgia ($64,938.3 thousand, an increase of 12%), Switzerland ($61,567.8 thousand, an increase of 34.6%), Iran ($38,192.7 thousand, a decline of 14%) and the USA ($23,727.6 thousand, a decline of 1.1%).

According to statistics, the most significant export items in the reporting period were precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and products - $ 1,046,345.4 thousand (a decline of 79.8% compared to January-May 2024), machinery, equipment and mechanisms - $ 471,849.1 thousand (a decline of 5%), finished food - $ 446,302.2 thousand (an increase of 31.5%), mining industry - $ 400,004.1 thousand (an increase of 1.8%), textiles - $ 132,849.1 thousand (a decline of 15.2%), base metals - $ 119,758.2 thousand (a decline of 12.5%).

According to statistics, the volume of imports to Armenia in January-May 2025 amounted to $4,891,152.8 thousand, recording a decline of 42% compared to January-May 2024.

In May 2025, this figure amounted to $972.7 million, decreasing by 20.4% compared to May 2024, and by 12% compared to April of the same year.

Imports from Russia stood at $1,764,040.8 thousand, a decline of 68.4%),. The volume of imports from the EU by exporting countries increased by 3.8% in the first five months of this year compared to the first five months of last year, amounting to $799,730.3 thousand, and by producing countries, the growth was 6.9% to $693,254.2 thousand.

The top three exporting countries are Germany ($162,933.2 thousand, a decline of 2.8%), Italy ($148,101.8 thousand, an increase of 13.7%) and the Netherlands ($69,427.6 thousand, a decline of 11.4%).

Other countries with the highest exports to Armenia include China ($528,918.2 thousand, up 49.5%), Georgia ($281,637.6 thousand, down 2.4%), Iran ($244,048.8 thousand, up 7.8%), the UAE ($161,241.8 thousand, down 17.8%) and the United States ($155,744.2 thousand, down 11.9%).

According to official statistics, for January-May 2025, the prevailing imports were machinery, equipment and mechanisms - $ 1,011,677.7 thousand (an increase of 1.8%), precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals - $ 923,616.5 thousand (a decrease of 80.8%), mining industry - $ 471,016.3 thousand (an increase of 6.2%), “land, air and water transport vehicles - $ 461,060.4 thousand (an increase of 31.9%), finished food - $ 316,434.5 thousand (an increase of 32.4%).-0-
