Armenia's foreign trade turnover fell by 37.1% over the first 10 months, amounting to $16.5 billion: Russia is ahead of China and the UAE in the top three
YEREVAN, December 8. /ARKA/. Armenia's foreign and mutual trade turnover in January-October 2025 decreased by 37.1% compared to the same period in 2024, amounting to $16,542,183.9 thousand, the Statistical Committee of the Republic reports.
In October 2025, this figure amounted to $1,938.0 million, a decrease of 16% compared to October 2024, and an increase of 17.8% compared to September 2025.
It should be noted that Armenia's foreign trade turnover growth began to slow in July of last year, and a decline has been recorded since January of this year: 40% in January 2025 compared to January 2024, 54.2% in the first quarter, 45% in the first half of the year, and 39.3% over the first three quarters.
Foreign Trade Turnover
Foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries for the first ten months of this year amounted to $6,156,922,000, a decrease of 45.7% compared to January-October of last year, including with the EAEU - $5,999,289,200 (a decrease of 46.5%). Armenia's largest foreign trade partners are Russia (trade turnover for the first 10 months of this year was $5,721,128.7 thousand, a 47.8% decline compared to the same period last year), Belarus ($201,442.9 thousand, an increase of 16.4%), and Ukraine ($86,622.5 thousand, an increase of 20.9%).
Armenia's foreign trade turnover with EU countries during the reporting period amounted to $2,012,720.9 thousand, an increase of 4.8%. The republic's five largest trading partners among European countries include Germany ($386,472.7 thousand, a decline of 4.1%), Italy ($368,880.1 thousand, an increase of 4.9%), France ($179,138.8 thousand, an increase of 38.1%), the Netherlands ($170,735.5 thousand, an increase of 16.1%) and Belgium ($159,022.2 thousand, an increase of 7.7%).
Among other countries, the largest trade turnover with Armenia in January-October 2025 was recorded by China ($2,123,584.4 thousand, a decline of 9.1%), the UAE ($1,535,878.7 thousand, a decline of 68.9%), Iran ($636,217.3 thousand, an increase of 7.3%), the USA ($290,641.3 thousand, a decline of 18.5%), Iraq ($277,359.5 thousand, an increase of 46.4%), Georgia ($227,723.7 thousand, a decline of 16.9%), Switzerland ($152,148.8 thousand, an increase of 7.3%) and Japan ($121,450.0 thousand, an increase of 10.8%).
Export
According to statistics, exports from Armenia in January-October 2025 decreased by 44.7% compared to January-October 2024, amounting to $6,416,386.9 thousand. In October 2025, this figure amounted to $744.4 million, a decrease of 21.8% compared to October 2024, and an increase of 12% compared to September 2025.
The volume of exports from Armenia to the CIS countries for the 2025 reporting period amounted to $2,627,115.1 thousand, a decrease of 7.1% compared to the same period last year, including exports to the EAEU - $2,574,079.0 thousand (a decline of 7.7%). The top three countries by export volume are Russia ($2,385,326.8 thousand, a decline of 9.2%), Belarus ($136,187.3 thousand, an increase of 44.8%), and Kazakhstan ($45,134.7 thousand, a decline of 20.2%).
Export volume to the EU countries for the 10 months of 2025 increased by 5.3% compared to the 10 months of 2024, amounting to $526,663.5 thousand. The top three countries by export volume are Belgium ($115,989.8 thousand, an increase of 16.8%), the Netherlands ($115,064.8 thousand, an increase of 15.6%), and Germany ($93,012.8 thousand, an increase of 80.6%).
Other countries with the largest export volumes from Armenia include the UAE ($1,470,099.1 thousand, a decline of 69.8%), China ($570,867.2 thousand, a decline of 42.2%), Iraq ($275,667.8 thousand, an increase of 45.9%), Switzerland ($120,388.1 thousand, an increase of 28%), Georgia ($110,302.7 thousand, a decline of 21.8%), Iran ($77,462.6 thousand, a decline of 14%) and the United States ($41,682.8 thousand, a decline of 17.1%).
According to statistics, the most significant export items in the reporting period were presented in the following commodity groups: “precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and products made of them” - $1,959,662.7 thousand (a decline of 73.5% compared to January-October 2024), “machinery, equipment and mechanisms” - $1,090,476.7 thousand (a decline of 0.8%), “finished food industry products” - $983,661.8 thousand (an increase of 25.3%), “mining industry” - $959,570.0 thousand (an increase of 11.1%), “textiles and products made of them” - $273,350.7 thousand (a decline of 11.4%), “products of plant origin” - $261,916.6 thousand (an increase of 27.5%), “base metals and products made from them” - $245,795.8 thousand (a decline of 13.6%) and “instruments and apparatus” - $180,381.4 thousand (an increase of 49.7%).
ImportAccording to statistics, imports to Armenia from January to October 2025 amounted to $10,125,797,000, a 31.2% decline compared to January to October 2024. In October 2025, this figure was $1,193.6 million, a 11.9% decrease compared to October 2024, and a 21.8% increase compared to September of the same year.
Imports from the CIS during the reporting period amounted to $3,705,652,700 for exporting countries (a 57.4% decline) and $3,529,806,900 for producing countries (a 58.5% decline). Imports from the EAEU by exporting countries amounted to $3,592,751.7 thousand (a decline of 58.3%), and by producing countries - $3,425,210.2 thousand (a decline of 59.3%). The top three exporting countries are Russia ($3,477,566.4 thousand, a decline of 59%), Ukraine ($85,317.0 thousand, an increase of 28%), and Belarus ($70,621.5 thousand, a decline of 19.2%). By producing countries, the leaders are the same, with the following indicators: Russia - $3,335,801.9 thousand (a decline of 59.9%), Ukraine - $77,259.1 thousand (an increase of 21.6%), and Belarus - $65,255.6 thousand (a decline of 17.5%). The volume of imports from the EU by exporting countries increased by 5.8% in the first 10 months of this year compared to the same period last year, amounting to $1,744,343.4 thousand, while by producing countries, the growth was 4.7% to $1,486,057.4 thousand. The top three exporting countries are Germany ($327,914.5 thousand, a decline of 11.4%), Italy ($322,061.6 thousand, an increase of 13.7%), and the Netherlands ($157,386.1 thousand, an increase of 2.2%). Among producing countries, the leaders are Italy ($315,379.3 thousand, an increase of 6.5%), Germany ($293,459.9 thousand, a decline of 16.5%), and France ($173,734.7 thousand, an increase of 41.4%). Other countries with the highest import volumes among exporting countries include China ($1,099,874.1 thousand, up 20.9%), Georgia ($609,683.1 thousand, down 5.8%), Iran ($562,684.4 thousand, up 9.6%), the UAE ($334,338.6 thousand, down 10%), and the United States ($289,093.8 thousand, up 2.8%). The top five producers by country were China ($1,552,717.2 thousand, up 15.3%), Iran ($558,754.7 thousand, up 11.1%), the United States ($248,958.5 thousand, down 18.7%), Georgia ($117,421.0 thousand, down 11.7%), and Japan ($103,292.8 thousand, up 6.9%).
At the same time, according to official statistics, for January-October 2025, the prevailing imports were in the following commodity groups: "machinery, equipment and mechanisms" - $2,139,979.0 thousand (a decline of 1.8%), "precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and products made from them" - $1,717,031.5 thousand (a decline of 74.9%), "mining industry" - $948,619.0 thousand (an increase of 4%), "land, air and water transport vehicles" - $867,949.6 thousand (an increase of 13.7%), "finished food industry products" - $705,872.7 thousand (an increase of 19.7%), "products of the chemical and related industries" - $577,068.7 thousand (an increase of 8%), “textiles and textile products” - $545,039.3 thousand (a decline of 3.6%) and “base metals and products made from them” - $529,469 thousand (an increase of 5.2%).
