Armenia Simplified Electric Vehicle Charging Regulations
YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. Today, the National Assembly of Armenia approved in its second and final reading a bill amending the Law "On Energy." The bill aims to establish a regulatory framework for electric vehicle charging.

The bill allows any person, including consumers, to offer electric vehicle charging services, which are not subject to licensing and regulation under energy law. Furthermore, consumers may use the supplied electricity not only in their own system but also in their parking lot or in another residential premises registered as a separate legal entity located outside the primary point of consumption, provided that these systems are independently connected in accordance with applicable standards.

According to the Law "On Energy," any consumer has the right to obtain the status of an autonomous energy producer in accordance with this law and market regulations.

An autonomous power producer is defined as a consumer who generates electricity for personal use using renewable energy sources and has entered into a mutual electricity flow agreement with the holder of a guaranteed supply license, without a license to produce electricity for the autonomous generating unit.

The maximum capacity of an autonomous power producer's installation is limited to 150 kW. Before May 1, 2022, the maximum limit for autonomous power producers was 500 kW. This creates a situation where two producers with the same status but different installation capacities face an inequality: one automatically becomes a wholesale market participant, renouncing its previous status, while the other must obtain an electricity production license to operate in this market in accordance with current legislation.-0-
